What is the difference between a PMS and resort operations software?
A PMS primarily manages commercial lodging functions such as reservations, rates, availability and guest records. Resort operations software focuses on the work required to operate the physical property, including unit status, housekeeping, maintenance, owners, residents, parking, access and guest-service workflows.
What a PMS is usually centered on
Property management systems are traditionally built around inventory, reservations, check-in and check-out, folios, pricing and distribution.
What the operations layer adds
The operations layer tracks the work happening around the stay: cleaning, inspections, repairs, private occupancy, owner use, vehicles, visitors, access and property communications.
Some properties need both concepts
The distinction is especially important for condominium resorts and mixed-use properties where not every occupied unit represents a rental reservation.
